This course is purely to introduce Surveying and Geoinformatics. It is designed for students in surveying and Geoinformatics discipline. The course will introduce the students to the Definition,History, Procedural categories,Principles, Classes, Uses, Fields of study, and the Practise of surveying, Qualities of a surveyor. National and International surveying organisations. It also introduces Geographical Information System (GIS) in the Definition, Benefits and theComponents. It further touches the Basic principles of measurement in surveying, Errors, Types andtreatment, Precision and Accuracy in surveying measurements. It capped everything with employment opportunities in surveying and geoinformatics.

Course Synopsis

This course is an exploratory, first course in map reading and interpretation usage designed primarily for students in surveying and geoinformatics. However, it also meets the need of students in other fields, as a course to develop useful practical map-reading skills. As a practical course, the focus is to impart useful skills on the students in order to allay the apparent fears of surveying students in map reading and interpretation to be encountered even at higher levels. Topics to be covered include scale and measurement of distance, finding direction and position, showing relief on maps, contour landforms, construction of scales, reading topographical maps etc.

Course Synopsis

This course is purely on the usage of surveying instrument designed for students in surveying and Geoinformatics discipline. The course will enable students to know the working principles, construction, classification, uses and care of surveying instruments. It will also make students to know the sources of instrumental errors and accuracy attainable by each instrument.
