Course Synopsis

This course is designed primarily for students in Surveying and Geoinformatics. As a mathematical course, the focus is to impart useful skills on the students in order to increase their ability in solving mathematical problems in surveying. As various measurement in surveying contains errors in various form. In this course, procedure for minimising the effect of the error through computational techniques and application supported by sufficient formal proofs and worked examples will be provided. Each of the course topics provide a guide for the students through worked examples to demonstrate the procedure and allow student mastery of the topic. Surveying computation prepare students for other specialised applications to be encountered at higher levels. Topics to be covered includes: Basic concept and processes of surveying computations. Field and office computations. Decimal and significant figures. Computation machines, Care of computation machines. Computations of distances and angles with their various corrections. Computations of rectangular coordinates from one station to the other, Computation of bearing and distances from coordinates of known points. Clossing error Misclossure, treatment of closing errors and attainable accuracy. Area computations. Reduction of levelling field book, computation and necessary checks, adjustment of ordinary levelling and attainable accuracy.
